Beyond the beach are olive terraces, a church square, a flag out at sea and people who keep the town going. Take a little time to meet this side of Moneglia.
Moneglia has been a Città dell’Olio since 2005. Its olive-oil market brings local food, growers and the surrounding olive terraces into the story of the town.
A small way to join inAsk where an oil was grown and milled. A bottle with a local producer’s name makes a thoughtful souvenir.
The linked market took place on 6 April 2026. Check Pro Loco for the next programme.
The celebration of Santa Croce on 14 September is part of Moneglia’s local calendar. The 2026 programme included an evening procession and fireworks along the seafront.
A small way to join inIf you visit during a procession, give participants space and follow local guidance. Check the year’s programme before planning around it.
The linked celebration was on 14 September 2026; it is a past edition, not an upcoming event.
The risseu pebble mosaic outside Santa Croce dates to 1882, according to Pro Loco. It is a lovely reason to slow down and notice the town’s small crafted details.
A small way to join inLook for the pebble patterns before you enter the church. This guide’s quiet mosaic decoration is an original nod to that tradition.
A heritage feature; church access and services should be checked locally.
Outside Santa Croce, two chain links and a historic inscription recall Moneglia’s ties with Genoa. Pro Loco connects the chains taken from Pisa’s harbour in 1290 with recognition of the town’s contribution to Genoa’s naval victories.
A small way to join inMake this a tiny stop on an old-town walk, alongside the church square and the Oratorio dei Disciplinanti.
The harbour chains and the 1284 battle of Meloria are related historical references, not the same dated event.
In June 2025, a report described Genoa Club Moneglia supporters replacing a red-and-blue Genoa flag on the offshore rock Pria Stella after rough seas had swept the previous one away.
A small way to join inIt is one supporter story within the town. Ask about local football over a coffee; enjoy the coastline from shore rather than trying to reach the rock.
A dated local story. The flag’s presence today and current club activities have not been confirmed.
Moneglia’s municipal coat of arms is described as a stone castle beneath a golden rampant lion on a red field. The town’s fortifications are another thread to follow through its history.
A small way to join inLook for civic symbols around town, then explore the story of Villafranca and Monleone. Our sun-and-bay logo is the independent guide’s own mark.
The tower illustration here is an original editorial icon, not the official coat of arms.
Build an easy old-town walk, or ask about the stories behind the places.

Getting here & parking ↗Find Moneglia railway station ↗Moneglia station is a useful starting point for coastal trips. Allow walking and waiting time as well as the journey itself. Train times in this guide are onboard only.
For car arrivals, plan via the inland Aurelia approach. The Pro Loco advises against coastal through travel via the tunnels. See Getting here & parking for the sources, local-access distinction and seasonal parking notice.
Find current trains with Trenitalia ↗Municipal traffic notices ↗“Good outdoor fit” is a practical assessment for a walk, not a guarantee of admission to beaches, shops or restaurants. The dog filter also includes restaurants with listed or visitor-reported dog access. Always ask specifically about an indoor table.
Check Trenitalia’s current ticket, lead, muzzle and document requirements. The research gives a dog fare of 50% of the ordinary second-class fare on regional trains for dogs outside carriers.
Trenitalia’s pet rules ↗“Siete aperti il giorno della nostra visita? Possiamo prenotare un tavolo all’interno con il nostro cane?”
“Are you open on our date, and can we book an indoor table with our dog?”
The rain score assesses comfort and shelter, not safety. 5/5 means indoors; 4/5 substantial shelter; 3/5 worthwhile in ordinary showers; 2/5 better in dry weather; 1/5 avoid rain. For restaurants, 5/5 assumes an indoor table is confirmed.
Coastal paths can close for storms, rough seas or works. Check official alerts and local notices before setting out.
